Alice Bourque

Obituary of Alice Elizabeth Bourque

It is with profound sadness that the children of Alice Bourque announce her peaceful passing at the age of 99 on May 2, 2024 at Melville Gardens.  Alice was born on January 24, 1925 in Halifax and was a daughter of the late Robert and Lucy (Poirier) Landry.

Mom had a passion for gardening and crafts, especially her floral arrangements for your table top and wreaths for the door.  She was a wonderful homemaker, always baking homemade pastry, cookies, and cakes.  Alice had been a life time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Vimy Branch #27, where she was part of the auxiliary, putting in long hours helping with banquets and preparing for bake sales.  She also enjoyed playing darts and Auction 45’s.  Mom was a person always willing to give and help in any way she could.  She enjoyed spending time with family and dearly loved the grandchildren.

Alice is survived by her children, Helena Baker (Greg), Dorine Wood (Dave), and Frances Alguire (Barry), her grandchildren, Dion (Andrea), Darald (Stephanie), Elaina (Jamie), Christina (Brandon), Daimen (Melissa), Doranda (John), Sarah (Matthew), and William (Jennifer).  She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Nicholas, Tristan, Briana, John-Ryan, Logan, Victoria, Aeriana, Isaiah, Ethan, Jordyn, Kaylee, William, Olivia, Kara, Nicole, and Alexxa-Rae, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, Kole, Maverick and Rhett.  She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as numerous cousins.

Alice was predeceased by her parents, Robert Landry and Lucy Landry (Poirier) Landry, her husband, Arthur Raymond Bourque, her brothers, Donald, Edward, Frank, Jimmy, and William, and her sisters, Mary Warnell, Evelyn Arsenault, Helen Bourgeois, and Rita Sangster.  Alice was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

The family would like to thank the staff of the 4th floor of Melville Gardens for the continuous care given to our mom over the years and in our mom’s last moments.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 from 4-8 PM at the funeral home.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on May 14, 2024 at 11AM from Stella Maris Parish (St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church).  Interment will follow Mass at Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville, NS.  In memory of Alice, please make a donation  to a charity that will benefit a child.
