Obituary of Cinda Vivian Fenton

December 13, 1940- June 26, 2017 Age 76. We are deeply saddened to announce that Cinda passed, with her loved ones by her side at home. She is survived by her husband Douglas and three children, David, Anathea (grandchildren Lauren and Julia), and Jeremy; brother Rob and sister Dale. Cinda was born in Elmira, New York to Leonard and Vivian Corcoran. She spent many happy childhood years there, with her brother and sister and beloved horse, Brigitte, before moving to Ft. Lauderdale Florida in 1952. Her life-long love of being in the sun started there; swimming, water-skiing and boating with her friends. She graduated high school in 1959, and attended the University of Wisconsin and Brenau College in Georgia, earning a B.A. Degree in English. As a teacher in Atlanta, Cinda took great pride in making an impact on the lives of her students. In 1965, while visiting Nova Scotia with her parents and brother for the summer, she attended classes at Dalhousie University and met Doug; it was love at first sight for both. They dated, and after a long-distance courtship, were married in 1966. Together for 51 years, they made Halifax their permanent home and Cinda became Canadian at heart. She continued teaching, spending a year at Herring Cove School. Cinda always felt a spiritual connection to the earth and all its creatures, and instilled that love of nature in her family. As a wife and mother, she created a home encouraging discussion and debate, and that good manners and grammar could take you anywhere you wanted to go in life. She loved her family dearly, and tried to make even the challenging times filled with good memories. One of her favorite places was York Redoubt, where she made great acquaintances with her fellow dog walkers. Cinda touched many people throughout her life, often welcoming them in and taking up the cause of others. She valued honesty and integrity. She will be fondly remembered for her hearty laugh, her wonderful hugs, and for her words of encouragement and praise to family, friends, and everyone she came in contact with. Cremation has taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Nova Scotia SPCA.
