Obituary of Irene Theresa Salter

mIt is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our loving sister and aunt Rene at the age of 89, surrounded by her loving family on Monday Oct. 16, 2017. Born in Halifax, July 26,1928 to the late William J. and Johanna T ( Smith ) Salter. Rene was employed with Maritime Paper Products for over 30 years. She was the world’s # 1 Blue Jays fan, never missing a game. She loved sports and in her youth she played soft ball for the womens leagues and won many local and Provincial championships, was a member of Club 60 where she and her sister Marge loved to through darts. She loved her lawn darts and everyone member of the family wanted to play on her team because they knew it was a sure win. She was the aunt everyone wished they had, but she was ours. Besides her parents, Rene was predeceased by her sisters, Lillian Westlake (George); Vivian Peacock (Frank); Marjorie and Connie in infancy; brothers, William ( Betty Salterio); Ronnie (Marilyn Goucher ).and her life long friend and companion Phil Scaravelli. Leaving to mourn are her sister, Betty Barkhouse (Fred) and brother, Dennis (Doe Hillison); three generations of very loving nieces and nephews throughout Canada, USA and Europe. She also leaves behind her life long friend, Maria Gray of Joseph Street and her family. The family would like to thank "Devin" from Palliative Care and the wonderful nurses’ from the VON for all their compassion and support and a special thank you to her nieces Sherry and Tracy for being her care givers. Cremation has taken place under the direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., Herring Cove Rd. As per Rene’s request the will be no visitation. Interment will be Friday, October 27, at 2pm. in Fairview Lawn Cemetery Windsor Street Halifax, NS. Cannon James Purchase will be officiating. Reception to follow at her home at 2535 Joseph Street Halifax. No flowers by request. All donations in Rene’s memories by be made to Hope for Wildlife. Thanks for the memories Rene, we are missing you dearly.
