Obituary of Chesley Stephen Gilkie

Age 56, Aylesford, formerly of Sambro, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, at home on Sunday, January 21, 2018.

Chesley spent half of his life as a fisherman in the community of Sambro before residing in Aylesford. He was Service Manager for 23 years with VanOostrums Farm Equipment Ltd. He had a great love of life, enjoyed being out in his yard, country classics and a drink of rum by his bon fire.

He is survived by his daughter, Tara Gilkie, Blackfalds AB; sisters, Trudy Trites (Chris), Maxine Griffin (Chris) and Annette Flemming (Dennis); brother, Curtis (Lorrie Boylen); numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Brenton and Betty Gilkie; brother, Grant Gilkie and chosen brother, Arthur.

We would like to thank the VanOostrum family, the nurses of Med A Valley Regional Hospital, VON Nursing and VON Home Care, as well to the many others who made it possible for Chesley to live out his final days in comfort at home. Last but not least, thank you to his exceptional neighbours who were there for him and our family through this difficult time.

Cremation has taken place. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, January 27 at 1 p.m. in St. James United Church, Sambro, with a reception to follow in the church hall. Donations in Chesley’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
