Obituary of Robert Michel Forewell

79, Halifax. It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Robert “Bob” Forewell on Friday, May 18th, 2018.  Born in Halifax on September 27, 1938, he was the son of the late James C., Sr. and Gloria (Baker) Forewell.

Bob enjoyed a very full life.  In his earlier years, he enjoyed dancing at Olympic Gardens and anyone who knew him knew his love for the music of Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra.  He was an old-school gentleman, loved the old days, the old ways and black and white movies.  He drove bus for Metro Transit and then drove taxi for Casino for decades; he loved getting to know as many people as possible in his travels.  He had many special landmarks, mostly in the North End, where he stopped in for daily visits, had chat with his friends, and he was no stranger to a good game of cards at his local club.   He had the true gift of gab.  You could always count on Bob for a witty and original remark. Some of Bob’s happiest days were spent at the cottage in Tennycape with his family and close friends, especially the Greenwood Family.  He enjoyed spending time on the beach, bass fishing with the boys, clam digging, trips down the road to Walton and having his great bonfires.  Bob’s pride and joy was his John Deere ride-on mower. He always made sure the lawn was looking its best and was more than happy to do the same for some of his neighbours.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Faye (Hennessy), of 58 years; son, Robert James and wife, Donna Mason; daughter, Leanne Wies (partner Joey Tynes); sister, Darlene Forbes of Kamloops, BC; former son-in-law, Chris Wies, and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by brothers, James C., Jr. and Kenneth A., and brother-in-law, David Forbes. Bob was a proud Papa and cherished his grandchildren, Jennifer, Christopher and Matthew (Wies); Rachel (partner Chris Veith), Raymond, Marcus (Forewell), great-granddaughter, Layla (Wies-Stuart), and great-grandsons, Hayden and Hudson (Veith).

In keeping with Bob’s wishes, there will be no formal service.  Instead, a visitation will be held at J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, on Thursday, May 24th from 5-7 p.m.  All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the IWK Children’s Hospital, a homeless shelter of your choice, or pay-it-forward by a deed of kindness in memory of Bob.
