It is with heartache that we announce the passing of our selfless and loving mother, Bernice Spicer, also known as Nanna “Picen” or “GiGi ”, who passed away on the early morning of January 20, 2025 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre with loved ones by her side. Born on May 23, 1949 in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Marshall and Thelma (Wilson) Jessome, and wife of the late William Roy Spicer of Halifax.
Bernice was a fun loving woman who liked to socialize and have a good laugh. She enjoyed music, dancing, and was a fabulous cook. She loved her sons and family unconditionally, as well as her cat, Mia. Bernice was a true Cape Bretoner at heart. She was a great piano and keyboard player, and was the rock of the family. You could always turn to her for comfort and advice when needed. Her huge heart, bright smile and chats were shared with many. Bernice worked for Sears, Dalhousie and Liuna the Laborer’s International Union of North America, where she made good friends and memories.
She is survived by her sons Bill (Juanita), Halifax, Bunker (Theresa), Halifax, and Jason (Chantel), Halifax, her grandchildren, Brandon (Shelby), Nicholas (Christie), Jordan (Kamia), Rebecca, Miley and Anjilque (Stevie), Halifax, and her great grandchildren, Roman, Athena, Mallory, Madison, and Milah. She is also survived be her sister, Iris Jessome, Halifax, and an uncle, Tommy Wilson, New Waterford, numerous nieces and nephews, and honorary grandchildren, Arielle, Dante, and Sophia. Thankyou all for your support and love.
She was predeceased by her husband, William, her brothers, Richard Jessome (Del), and Raymond Jessome (Beverley), her sister, Pamela Colburn (Carl), niece, Corrina Jessome, nephew, William Jessome and numerous aunts and uncles.
Cremation has taken place and a funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 11:30 am from Stella Maris Parish (formerly St. Michaels's Church), 6 St. Michael's Avenue, Halifax, NS, with a reception to follow from 12:30pm- 4pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 152 (Spryfield Legion), 7 Sussex Street, Halifax, NS.
