Very sad to hear of Gary,s passing. Growing up in Carroll,s Corner, the population was such that pretty well everyone knew everyone else; So I knew Gary. He was cool , because he played the drums. I got to play music with Gary many years later. He was great . Very comfortable to be on stage with, I think I may have played with him at his last gig. When I told my 97 yr old mother that Gary had passed she said “ they lost a good person when they lost him”. So true. My condolences to his family.

To the family of Gary Castle our thoughts are with all of you. Growing up in Carroll's Corner my memories of Gary go back a long time and the news of his passing has shocked and saddened us both. I remember him learning to play "Wipe Out" on his new drums, a proud moment. He was one of kind and a friend to all.

We got to know Gary because he was a member of Visual Arts Nova Scotia for many years and served on the Board of Directors as well. He was a huge supporter of the arts in Nova Scotia and he had almost yearly exhibitions at the VANS' Corridor Gallery - which were always great. He was a dedicated artist, always experimenting and trying new things - each exhibition was a surprise. Gary was such a kind person and we loved his visits to our office. One special memory of Gary is when his friend, fellow artist Natan Nevo had an exhibition at the Corridor Gallery but was not well enough to install in himself so Gary brought in all the work and spent the day carefully curating and hanging Natan's exhibition (the image is from that day). We'll miss him and our thoughts are with his family.
Sincerely,
Carri and Andrea
Visual Arts Nova Scotia

Dearest Cheryl. Keith and I wish to extend our Deepest Condolences to you and your family. We were both shocked and saddened to hear of Gary's passing. As you know, Keith and Gary met at Vocational School in Photography classe and became good friends. We have some very fond memories of the four of us hanging out together back then. After marrying and starting our families, we unfortunately lost contact with each other over the years, but you both were thought of often. Our Hearts ache for you. Sending our Love to you.

I remember when Gary came to the "big city" from Carrols Corner. He boarded with us as he went to study his photography course.
I remember Gary teaching me stuff about cameras that I never knew!
I remember Gary's parents who were the nicest folks in the world.
I remember Gary buying his first car, Plymouth with the push button auto transmission.
I remember Gary being so happy when he met Cheryl!
I remember Gary working at Dal in the photo lab, with complete ease.
I remember Gary always had a camera handy.
But most of all, I remember Gary as being one of the nicest guys you could ever meet!
Rest easy my friend!

Early AM promo spot, Global TV, for Gary's Photography Exhibit in early 2016 called "Memorable Encounters", Chase Gallery, Provincial Archives of Nova Scotia, Albert Lee and I were proud to be part of the show displaying some of our favorite photos
along with Gary's.
We all worked together at Dalhousie University, Life Sciences Building as Bio-Medical Photographers in the early 1970s
He was well liked by everyone he met socially and by his peers. I don't ever remember him in a bad mood or angry!
His legacy is one to admire...Jim Clark
