Obituary of June Irene Rondeau
June Irene Rondeau, 83, of Tantallon, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 13, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s-related dementia.
June was born in Halifax on June 7, 1941, to the late Gordon Russel and Margaret Winnifred (Keating) Rhyno. One of nine siblings, she spent her entire life in the St. Margaret’s Bay area. After completing her schooling, she worked for National Drug before eventually co-founding and operating the family business, JR Construction, alongside her husband John, until her retirement.
She is survived by John and her children, Jennifer (Blair) Keeping and Jeffrey (Lisa) Rondeau and her grandchildren—Madilyn, Taylor, Ethan, and Liam. She loved her children and grandchildren deeply and the love she gave will always be with them.
An amazing cook and baker, June’s love for good food lives on through her recipes. She had a passion for gardening, cultivating vibrant flower beds, vegetable patches, and a variety of trees and shrubs. June had a competitive streak when it came to games and sports; whether it was a lively game of checkers or cheering on her children and then her grandchildren. An enthusiastic sportsperson herself, she loved skiing, hiking, swimming, and especially baseball, which she both played and coached in her younger years. She adored all children, in her family, and the kids “on the road” over the years, taking great joy in seeing them swim in the pool or visit on Halloween.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Denise Burke, June’s devoted and loving caregiver for the final 2.5 years of her life. We are forever thankful for the joy, laughter, and local adventures they shared.
She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her family and friends for her quiet kindness and sincere generosity.
Cremation has taken place, and the immediate family will celebrate her life privately. Donations in June’s honour may be made to the Alzheimer Society or a children’s charity of your choice.
