Obituary of Louise Christina Melanson

89, Halifax, NS, passed away on April 27, 2025.  Born in Low Point, Inverness County, NS, Louise was the daughter of the late Victor and Lexena (MacDonald) Downie.  Louise is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Charles of Halifax, her two sons, Peter of Burlington and John of Toronto; daughter-in-law Smita Halder, and cherished grandsons, Sam and Paul, all of Toronto; brother, Allan (Barbara) Downie, and sister, Ann-Marie (Tom Cuddihy) Downie.  She was predeceased by brothers, Beaton (Roma) Downie, and Victor (in infancy)

Louise worked for the Nova Scotia Provincial Government early on in her career, then with the arrival of her children dedicated herself to raising her family.  Louise then returned to the workforce with the Nova Scotia Power Commission.

By request there will not be a visitation, and a Funeral Mass will be held at St Stephen’s Catholic Church, 6032 Normandy Drive, Halifax on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at 11 AM. Interment will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville, NS.
