Ella Joyce Sheridan (Joyce)

E. Joyce Sheridan age 88 of Halifax, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Northwood, Halifax. Born in Lakeview, NS, she was the daughter of the late Harold Hanson and Ella Rose (Canavan) McLean.

Growing up in Lakeview, Joyce enjoyed swimming and skating on Rocky Lake. She liked to visit her grandparents’ farm in Hillsvale, NS, where she enjoyed tending to the farm animals and her grandmother’s baking. Joyce went to school in the small schoolhouse across from her home. Later, she would take the train to MSVU, graduating on June 12, 1956.

Joyce worked for a short time before marrying Bill and buying a house in the north end of Halifax. Joyce and Bill liked to play Bridge on the weekends with the neighbours, Maureen and Wayne. She loved to spend time at her parents’ farm in Woodville, NS, picking strawberries, getting together with relatives, and family outings. Mom also enjoyed bowling, knitting, crafting, and baking, always providing coffee or tea and sweets for friends and family stopping by to visit.

Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Bill; brothers, Ronald and Lawrence. She is survived by brothers, Keith and Seward (Elva); children, Anne (Larry), Susan Cole, Cathy Golden, Bill Jr., John, Michael (Tammy), and Paul (Atsuki).

Joyce loved children, having seven of her own. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, Jerry and Daniel Garagan, Jill and Wesley Cole, Matthew and Meaghan Golden, Michael Joyce (MJ) and Allison. Mom would put on a Boxing Day get-together for the grandchildren and relatives every year.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Northwood for the exceptional care they provided. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations in memory of Joyce to Northwood, Halifax or to St. Stephen’s Church, 6032 Normandy Dr., Halifax. A funeral service will be held at J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Road, on June 20 at 10:00 am, with a reception to follow. A private family burial will be taking place at Mount Olivet Cemetery following the reception.
