Obituary of Gerald Douglas Nicholas

87, Halifax (formerly of Bedford), passed away on June 13, 2025 at Northwood Centre.  Born in Halifax on November 20, 1937, he was the youngest son of the late Lillian (Jollimore) and Wilfred Nicholas.  Gerald, affectionately known as “Gerry”, was a truly kind and caring person who was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed.  He was known to fix or repair most anything, and if he could not fix it, his advice would be to get rid of it.  He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, camping, and travelling.  Gerry started his career at Polar Ice Cream in 1954, and retired from Farmer’s Dairy in 1997, following 43 years of service in the ice cream business.  An accomplishment of which he was always proud.

Gerry is survived by two sons, Darryl (Marlene), and Shawn (Dawn).  Also, Gerry has two grandsons, Alex and Xavier, who he loved deeply, as well as his several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife, Betty (Stone, Harnish), his older brother, Wilfred “Bub” Jr., his sisters, Shirley Harnish and Helen Armsworthy, sister-in-law, Lillian Nicholas, and brothers-in-law, Ken Harnish and Albert Armsworthy.

At Gerry’s request, cremation will take place with no visitation or memorial service.  A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at 11 AM at Oakridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Sackville, NS.  To send condolences to the family, please visit www.walkerfh.com
