Obituary of Darrell Irvine David-Thompson
Darrell “Dowsie” Irvine David-Thompson
Dec 13, 1968 – Aug 24, 2025
It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Darrell David, 56 of Spryfield, passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 24, 2025. He was the son of the late Leroy and Evelyn David-Thompson.
Darrell was predeceased by sisters, Nellie and Patsy; and brothers, Kenny & Dwight. Darrell is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Kelly Gourley; daughters, Caitlyn (Josée), Jillisa (Bubba), and Kyiesha (Shawn); grandchildren, Jaelynn, Cordelle, and Zyah – his pride and joy. Darrell is also survived by his siblings, Finnie, Michael, Terry (Vivian), Leonard (June), Paul (Joan), Calvin, Terrance, Tracey (Raymond), Velma, Diane (Darren); special nephews and brothers, Nathan, Michael, Jamaine, and Carlow; best friend, Robert Gray; and many nephews and nieces.
Darrell was a generous and selfless person who wouldn’t hesitate to give the shirt off his back. Darrell loved his family. He could often be found at Kidston and Long Lake, where he grew up, spending time making memories with them, simply sitting by the water with his brother, Dwight, or enjoying his favourite drink, Royal Reserve. He taught his children and many of his nephews & nieces to swim, ice skate, and fish. He was an avid Lakers, Denver Broncos, and Edmonton Oilers fan.
Darrell never passed up a chance to make his family laugh with a foolish dance. He loved to dress to impress and could not resist a good deal.
We will miss you, Darrell, but we know you are in a much better place resting in peace with your loved ones who have gone before you.
In honour of Darrell- “Have a shot”, “Take care”, and “Bye bye.”
A Celebration of Life for Darrell will take place on Friday September 12, 2025, from 7 PM to 12 AM at the Spryfield Legion, 7 Sussex St, Halifax, NS B3R 1N8.
