Obituary of John Ira Rondeau
John Ira Rondeau, 83, of Tantallon, passed away on August 26, 2025, after a short and tough battle with pancreatic cancer.
John was born in Halifax on May 30, 1943, to the late John Frances George Rondeau and Muriel Evelin (Chandler) Rondeau. One of six siblings, he spent his early life in North-end Halifax before settling in Tantallon, where he lived the remainder of his life.
John worked for many years as a crane operator at the Halifax Shipyards before founding his family business, JR Construction Ltd., which he operated until retirement. Even after retiring, he continued to do construction work well into his late 70s.
John is pre-deceased by his wife June, his brother Clyde and sister Diane. He is survived by his children, Jennifer (Blair) Keeping, and Jeffrey (Lisa) Rondeau and his grandchildren—Madilyn, Taylor, Ethan, and Liam. As well as his brothers Barry (Margie), Paul (Gloria), Derrick (Brenda) and many nieces and nephews.
John enjoyed boating, driving his motorcycle, and spending time tinkering in the garage on his many mechanical projects- though few were ever completed.
The family extends their gratitude to Denise Burke and Mark Weldon, who made it possible for John to be at home for as long as possible in his last weeks, something he valued greatly. John deeply appreciated all the visits from family and friends, especially Alan Edwards, who traveled from British Columbia.
John will be missed by his family, friends and many clients he served over the years.
Cremation has taken place, and the immediate family will celebrate his life privately at a later date.
