Obituary of Charles Bartlett
Charles Bartlett, age 87, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025, at the QEII Halifax Infirmary.
Born in English Harbour, West Newfoundland, Charles was the son of the late Isaac and Ida Bartlett.
He started work in Newfoundland on a lobster pound and then on fishing draggers. He then came to Halifax and worked as a carpenter’s helper, then on the sea for Natural Sea Products for fourteen years. Finally, he worked for the Department of Fisheries & Oceans with the Coast Guard for twenty five years. He retired at fifty-five because of his health. Charles was a member of Emmanuel Anglican Church. He enjoyed dancing, bingo, and going to his son Richard’s place.
Charles is survived by his wife Gladys (the former Gladys Barnes); son Richard & companion Darlene; grandkids, Richard, Todd & Zachery; great-grandchildren, Nyla, Noah, Kingsley, Luke; sister, Evelyn (Will), Ontario; brother-in-law Bob (Thelma), Bedford; brother-in-law Melvin (Joyce), Halifax; sister-in-law Winnie; and many cousins, nieces & nephews.
Charles was predeceased by brother, Jim; sister-in-law, Florence; brother-in-law, Frankie; sister-in-law, Shirley; Mike, Edgar, Mary & Joe; and great-granddaughter Nevaeh.
Charles’s family would like to thank Nicole and Tim, her companion, for their help. Thanks also to Ruth Wagner for the phone calls. Many thanks to the staff at QEII, and Dr. Nabha Shetty. Can’t thank you enough.
Arrangements are taking place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home. Visitation will take place at J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, Nova Scotia, on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 12 PM to 2 PM. A funeral service and reception will take place following the visitation at the funeral home. Family flowers by request, please.
