Obituary of Kathleen Mary MacDonald
With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing on September 22, 2025, of our mother and wonderful beacon of light, Kathleen (Kay Sampson) MacDonald at the age of 96, at Northwood Care in Halifax.
Kay is survived by her daughter Lynn and her two sons, Michael (Jeanne) and Darrell (Anita). Also by her granddaughter, Julianna, and three grandsons, Alexander, Nicholas and Jeffrey, whom she loved so much, as well as her four great-grandchildren, Lachlan, Quinn, Malakai and McKenna. She is also survived by her sisters, Lilly, Bernice and Jeannie and her brother, Charles.
Mom was predeceased by her mother, Julia (Perry) Sampson and her father Abraham Sampson. She also painfully grieved the passing of her husband Joseph MacDonald and her three sons, Joseph, Bryan and Terrance (Terry). Mom was also predeceased by her sisters, Betty, Rita and Doreen, and brothers, Edward, Lawrence, Gerald, Clifford, and baby Clarence.
Mom was an incredibly strong woman, whose whole life was completely dedicated to her family and her faith in God. She loved children, animals of all kinds, especially cats and dogs, music, old movies and was an avid Bingo player. Her personality, sense of humour and sharp wit will be missed by all who knew her.
We, the family, want to extend our extreme gratitude for the amazing care, compassion and love shown to our mother by the entire staff of 3 Center, Northwood, especially Charge Nurse, Erin Ryan. We would also like to extend a huge thank you to co-resident, Audrey Wiseman for her continuing concern for Mom.
Cremation has taken place and a visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, September 27, 2025 from 3-5 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at 11am at Stella Maris Parish (formerly St. Michael’s Catholic Church), 14 St. Michael's Avenue, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of our Mom to the Alzheimer’s Society.
