Obituary of Betty Hunt
It is with great sadness that the family of Caroline Elizabeth “Betty” Hunt announces her sudden passing on September 24, 2025. Born in Halifax on June 2, 1959, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Lillian Hunt.
Betty was a talented barber who worked at Starlite Barber Shop and Purcell’s Barbershop in Spryfield. Her warm, social nature made her a natural behind the chair—she loved to chat with everyone who sat down, and there was often a line waiting just to see her. Her passion for barbering extended far beyond the shop; she always carried her clippers, ready to give a trim, and if she wasn’t cutting someone’s hair, she was asking who had. After many years in the profession, Betty retired to lovingly care for her parents, a role she took on with immense pride.
Her greatest joy in life was her son, Bobby, who was truly her world and inspiration. She poured her heart into raising him, finding her life’s greatest purpose in motherhood. Her pride and devotion to him were evident to everyone who knew her.
Betty will also be remembered for her love of Halloween, her famously long text messages, her talents in the kitchen, and her passion for makeup and purses. She especially loved giving makeovers to her niece, Alyssa, creating countless moments of laughter and joy.
Beyond her own family, Betty touched the lives of many young people, offering kindness, encouragement, and support during challenging times in their lives—taking them in as they were and loving them as if they were her own. Her ability to make others feel valued and understood will never be forgotten.
She is survived by her son, Bobby, and his father, Bobby Sr.; sisters Janet, Kathy (Dave), Janie, and Lisa (Kevin); brother Jack (Mary-Lou); nieces Pamela (Kevin), Melinda, Emily, Kelly (Justin), Danielle, Hailey, Breanna (Jared); nephews Jason (Darcy), Troy (Cassandra), Bernie (Sheila), Charlie (Jill), Brandon, Justin (Shakisha), Jordan, Stephen, Chad, and Dylan; as well as her many beloved great-nieces and nephews-including the most recent additions she adored, Avery, Malikye, and Greyson; aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Betty was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Donald and Richard Hunt; her niece, Theresa Hunt; and her cousin, Joanne Hunt.
Above all, Betty will be remembered for her warmth, humor, and the love she so generously shared with her family, friends, and community.
Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Betty’s wishes, a private family committal service will take place where Betty will be laid to rest with her parents. A public Celebration of Life for Betty will take place on Friday, October 10, 2025, starting at 6:00 PM at the Spryfield Legion, 7 Sussex St, Halifax, NS B3R 1N8. All are welcome to come and share memories of Betty with her family.
