Obituary of James Philip McCarthy
It is with heavy hearts that the family of James (aka Jimmy or Doc) Philip McCarthy announces his peaceful passing on September 30, 2025, at the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital in Halifax, with family by his side as he ended his battle with dementia.
Jimmy was 65 years old.
Born on April 13, 1960, in St. Hubert, Quebec, he was the son of the late Bill and Patricia McCarthy.
A true jack of all trades, Doc worked in a variety of roles throughout his life — as an apprentice plumber, a short-haul truck driver, and his last job, as a custodian at the Prospect Road Community Centre, where he took pride in his work and his many connections within the community. Jimmy was known for his strong work ethic, kind heart, and his ability to lend a hand wherever it was needed. Jimmy's charisma and zest for life, his laughter, sense of humour, spontaneity, and love for his family were all a part of what drew people to him.
Jimmy was predeceased by his beloved parents, Bill and Patricia (Reid) McCarthy, and his cherished daughter, Krista McCarthy. He will be deeply missed by his surviving daughter, Amanda (Andrew), and his treasured granddaughter, Karter, who brought him so much joy. James also leaves behind his siblings : brothers Kevin (Holly), Dale, and Randy (Angela); and sisters Lorrie (Glen) and Michelle (Richard), and his many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He will be remembered fondly by extended family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The loss of Jimmy will be felt by all those who had the privilege to know him, it is a loss that will always be felt, a laughter and smile that will be missed, but a brother/brother-in-law, a father, a grandfather, an uncle, and a friend that will always be loved and never forgotten.
We are grateful for the moments we shared and the memories that endure. Jimmy is now at rest, free from confusion and pain, and held forever in our hearts. Rest easy, Jimmy, we know you are up there laughing with those who went before.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Camp Hill for their compassionate care during James’s final days.
We invite all who knew and loved Jimmy/Doc to join us at a Celebration of his life while we share stories and memories on October 18th, 2025, from 1:00pm-4:00 pm, at the White's Lake Legion, 3495 Prospect Road.
Please feel free to bring along a finger food (no shellfish, please). It would be greatly appreciated.
