Obituary of Muriel Elizabeth Matthews
Muriel Elizabeth Matthews of Halifax, died at Maplestone Enhanced Care on Monday, October 27, 2025. Born in Halifax, NS on May 14, 1931, the only daughter of the late Clifford and Ethel (Vail) Sanford. She had been a volunteer in the Home and School Association, the Red Cross Corps and Meals on Wheels, and served at the Immigration Pier, Camp Hill Lodge and Blood Donor Clinics. She was a member of Fairview United Church, taught Sunday School, and served as an Explorer Leader. She was also a member of the Pastoral Care Committee and the Family Resource Council.
She is survived by her son, Clifford “Bob”; daughter, Ethel Isenor (Randy); grandchildren, Elizabeth Isenor (Matthew Parliament), Katie Isenor, Angela Isenor (Amelia Iwanicki), Jordan and Bradley Matthews; great-grandchildren, Blake, Regan, Sloan and Hanes Thomas, along with Jacob, Benjamin, Samuel, Thomas, Victoria and Andrew Parliament; and brother Walter “Toby” Donald. She was predeceased by her husband, Wallace “Bud” Matthews, brothers, Joe of Kingston, ON, Clifford “Bob” of Liverpool, NS, and Kenneth of Ottawa, ON.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff at Maplestone Enhanced Care for their care and kindness.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at 2:00 PM at J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Operation Eyesight or to a charity of choice.
