Obituary of Susan Eileen Haikings-Duggan
Susan "Sue" Eileen Haikings-Duggan (née Bruno)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sue Haikings-Duggan, beloved wife, mother, daughter, teacher, and friend. No words can describe the deep sorrow felt by those who knew and loved her. Born and raised in Sydney, Cape Breton, Sue was a proud graduate of Sydney Academy. She then moved to Halifax to pursue her nursing career, graduating from the Victoria General Hospital as a registered nurse.
Sue worked as a nurse for five years in Halifax and five years in Maine. During her nursing career, she began teaching courses and discovered her true passion lay in education. Returning to Halifax, she pursued a Master’s in Education and became a dedicated school teacher. For 20 years, Sue inspired and nurtured countless students as an EAL teacher at Park West School. She loved working with her students and watching them grow and learn.
Sue had a zest for life and a love of travel, especially cruising. She shared many joyful adventures with family and friends. She was especially devoted to her beloved Border Collie, Rosie, who brought her endless joy.
Sue leaves behind her loving husband, Barry Duggan. She was the love of Barry’s life and he will dearly miss her. Sue also leaves behind her daughter, Elizabeth; daughter, Abby and her husband, Aren; stepson, Ryan; and her mother, Shirley. She was predeceased by her father, Gerard Bruno, and her brother, Thomas Bruno.
A warm, loving, and passionate soul, Sue’s legacy will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, students, and all whose lives she touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday November 15, 2025 at J Albert Walker Funeral Home 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, Nova Scotia, B3P 1K6 from 2 PM to 4 PM. All who knew Sue are welcome to attend and join her family in sharing memories.
