Obituary of Winnifred Agnes Young

Winnie Young (Winnifred Agnus Hake) born in Arichat September 22, 1936 passed away at Ivany Place, Bedford November 10, 2025.

Winnie worked alongside her husband Herbie at Young’s Lobster Pound in St Margaret’s Bay.Together they started the business, and it operated for 25 years until health issues forced Herbie to retire. Winnie forgave those responsible for taking advantage of her and her property. And while the property has gone on to others it is a cherished memory of Winne and Herbie’s contribution to the community.

They were hard workers and life was hard. Through all the hardship they had 5 children:Patricia, Doris, Linda, Alan and John. Winnie was also a mother to chosen son Frank, a grandmother and a great grandmother.

She was predeceased by husband Herbie and daughter Linda. Cremation has taken place and there will be no public service or burial as per Winnie’s request. She will be laid to rest privately, at a later date, with Herbie in the Anglican Church grounds in
Boutilier’s Point.
