Obituary of Vivian Ann Dugas
Dugas, Vivian Ann, age 85 died on November 13, 2025 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax after a brief illness. Born on April 3, 1940 in Bridgetown, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Cecilia (Fougere)Thompson.
Vivian was predeceased by her husband, Simon and is survived by her daughter, Janet (Larry) Colby; grandson, Leslie; her two half-sisters, Gail (Werner, deceased) Szydlowski of Huntingdon, Quebec and Linda Thompson of North York, Ontario.
Vivian was raised in River Bourgeois, Cape Breton by her grandparents, Mary & Remi Fougere whom she dearly loved. After their marriage, Vivian and Simon lived a few years in River Bourgeois and moved to Halifax where they spent the remainder of their lives. Vivian was employed as a cleaner with her husband at Maritime Medical Care, housekeeper at the Lord Nelson Hotel and after her retirement she had her own clients for a period of time.
Vivian loved cats and owned a few during her lifetime. She had a great sense of humour and loved a good laugh. She was very generous, donating money to various organizations and if she met someone on the bus who was down and out, it was nothing for her to hand them over a gift of cash. She loved playing cards and going on bus trips with friends. Cooking and baking was a favourite pastime and many family members and friends would gladly accept an invitation for meals as Vivian was a wonderful cook.
A special thank you to her nieces, Joan & Sharon who assisted Vivian in so many ways over the years, taking her to various appointments, grocery shopping, taking her out for meals, talking on the phone and spending time with her. Also to close neighbours who helped Vivian by shovelling snow, mowing and raking leaves or simply stopping by for a visit. Only she knew how precious you all were to her.
Thank you also to the staff on 4.2 and 8.3 at the QEII who lovingly and gently cared for Vivian.
As per Vivian’s wishes cremation will be taking place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home.
Visitation will take place on November 26th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax.
