Obituary of Victor Cormier
In Loving Memory of
Claude Victor Cormier
1930-2025
Claude Victor Cormier of Halifax, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully at the QEII Halifax Infirmary on November 27, 2025, at the age of 95.
Born in Waterford, Prince Edward Island on August 9, 1930, he was the son of the late Claude and Geneva (Jones) Cormier.
Dad was a devoted family man, loving husband and father. We were blessed by the stories he shared of his youth growing up on the island; through tough times of losing his father at an early age, surviving the shortages of the war, selling his guitar to Stompin Tom (his first guitar), to fishing lobster and hauling Irish moss from the shore.
In the early 50’s, after trying his lobster fishing skills with his life-long friend Kevin Shea, they sold their gear and hit the road; Kevin bound for NB and Vic bound for ON, where he was employed at a Chrome Plating Factory. After a year, the sea was calling dad back; following Kevin’s footsteps, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy, where he served honourably from 1951-1980.
After retiring from the Navy, dad was employed as Manager at the Spryfield Lions Rink for 14 years, where he continued working in his community and made new friends along the way.
Victor is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Bernadette Mary (Martin) Cormier; 8 children: Wayne (Arlene) of Halifax, Dale (Janie) of Halifax, Deborah White of Halifax, Kenny (Paula) of Halifax, Paul (Lynne) of Kingston, ON, Karen (Brian) MacDonald of Deep Cove, NS, Kevin (Wanda) of Halifax and David of Halifax; his 2 sisters: Florence Mearns of Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON and Genevieve McAlduff of Waterford, PEI; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Anita, Tilmon (Pat), Carol Ann (Alfred) and Christine (Wayne); 17 grandchildren: Michael, Christa, Michelle, Gayle, Ricky, Valerie, Craig, Robbie, Erica, Melissa, Jennifer, Brittany, Brandon, Jacquelyn, Colin, Alex and Rachel; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was a cherished brother/brother-in-law of the late Ray (Elaine), Louise, Alfred (Eva & Betty), Roy, George and Stanley.
Vic and Bernie enjoyed many years at their summer cottage in Waterford, PEI surrounded by their family and friends. There was never a dull moment or a spare chair to be found as everyone crammed around the kitchen table to enjoy stories, songs and even a few dances into the late summer evenings.
A service to celebrate Vic’s life will take place at Stella Maris Parish, 6 St Michaels Ave, Halifax, NS on December 09, 2025 at 11:00 AM with a reception to follow downstairs. Interment will take place at a later date in Prince Edward Island.
In lieu of Flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
