Some of my fondest memories included hanging out in his room and blasting tunes through old used car speakers under an awesome light show—complete with a super-cool Jacob’s Ladder, flashing coloured lights, and a strobe dancing across the walls.
As kids, we spent countless hours setting up little army men in battle-ready scenes, only to blow them up with firecrackers and homemade bombs. I lost count of the number of forts we attempted to build, including huge snow forts in the winter. Looking back, shooting each other with pellet guns, and hand made slingshots was probably not the smartest of ideas, but luckily no one lost an eye—or worse. This activity, believe it or not, was all in good fun.
As young teenagers, we dove into the world of late-night British comedies like Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, and The Two Ronnies.
Our hangouts included Mountain Misery, The Quarry, Purcell’s Cove, and of course “No-Fires”.
As next-door neighbours and kids born on the exact same day (I was born a couple hours earlier – Rick hated when pointed that out, and I'm not sure it was even true) we had our share of ups and downs, and although we grew apart after high school, no matter what trouble we got into as kids, we always had each other’s back.
May you rest in peace, old friend.
