Obituary of Richard Harris

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Richard (Rick) Charles Harris announce his passing on November 25, 2025. Born on November 29, 1962, and raised in Spryfield, Rick lived his life completely on his own terms—independent, strong-willed, and never afraid to be exactly who he was.

Rick is survived by his brother, James Harris (Margie) of Halifax; sisters, Cindy Oakley (Eddie) and Lynn Flemming (Mark); and by his nieces and nephews, Jeff Flemming (Judy), Kory Flemming, Karie Raymond (Chad), Vicki Veilleux (Alain), Michelle Harris (Kyle), Morgan Oakley (Justin), and Sophia Oakley, all of Halifax. He was predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Myrtle Harris, and his sister and brother-in-law, Dale & Kathy Lewin.

Rick worked for many years with HH Marshall, delivering to countless businesses across the area. While he wasn’t one for small talk, he had his own way of connecting with people—often through blunt humour, a sharp comment or with his laugh that instantly made those around him laugh along with him.  Though Rick carried a tough exterior, those who truly knew him understood the soft heart he kept well-guarded. He cherished his friends deeply and loved his social time, always with a tale of some wild adventure—usually hard to believe, yet undeniably Rick.  A lifelong collector, Rick spent many years gathering unique items. In early years hundreds of Archie comic books filled his man cave walls. One constant collection that he always had was dinky cars hundreds upon hundreds of dinky cars, some dating back decades. He took great pride in his collections and loved sharing the stories behind his finds with those close to him.  Rick valued his friendships deeply, and though his circle was small, it meant everything to him.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Charmaine, a dear friend who supported Rick with unwavering loyalty and patience. Rick spoke of her often and with great appreciation, fully aware of how lucky he was to have her in his life. Caring for someone as stubborn as Rick wasn’t always easy, but Charmaine did it with ease, humour, and genuine affection.

Cremation has taken place, and Rick will be laid to rest with his parents in St. John’s Cemetery.  A Celebration of Rick’s Life will be held in the Community Room at Samuel Prince Manor, 3792 Novalea Drive, Halifax, on Sunday, December 7th from 2–4 p.m.   All who knew Rick are warmly
invited to attend.

Rest in peace, Uncle Rick. You will be deeply missed.
