Vera-Lynn Thompson passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, January 12, 2026, at the Abbie J. Lane Memorial Building in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Born on November 28, 1957, in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, Vera-Lynn was the beloved daughter of the late Rose (Rhindress) and Willis Thompson. She was raised on the family farm in Middleboro alongside her seven brothers and sisters.
Vera-Lynn worked for many years in the family restaurant, the Yellow Rose, in Wallace, Nova Scotia, alongside her mother and sisters. She later worked at the Lady Wentworth Irving before moving to Halifax, where she began working at the Red Fox Beverage Room. It was there that she met her future husband, Richard, and formed a lifelong friendship with Joanne DeYoung.
Vera-Lynn will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her husband, Richard McKinnon; her sons, Kyle MacKinnon and Jason Thompson; her brother, Ronald Thompson; and her sisters, Evon Thompson, Jacqueline Hurley (Arnold), and Sheri Thompson Palcich (Tony). She will also be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews: Rhonda, Chad, Sara, John, Vanessa, Michel, Josh, Korren, Nora, and Thane, along with extended family and friends.
Vera-Lynn was predeceased by her parents, Rose and Willis Thompson, and her siblings, Dianne Thompson, Cathy Thompson, and Wayne Thompson.
In keeping with Vera-Lynn’s wishes, no visitation or funeral service will be taking place.
Vera-Lynn’s memory will live on through the love she shared, the family bonds she cherished, and the many lives she touched.
