Obituary of Carol Hovey
Carol married Lloyd Hovey in 1967 and had 2 beautiful children: Kevin (Shelley) and CoraLee (Stew). As her children grew, they created families of their own. Her grandchildren: Kaitlyn (Goodwin), Brenna (Hovey), Nathan (Hovey), and Connor (Hovey).
Carol was the heart of her family, providing unwavering support to her children, grandchildren and extended family members. She was a very giving person. She supported her children by dog sitting for them each day while they were at work. Carol also provided a meal to go when they stopped in on the way home. Her generosity continued to her grandchildren. She was happiest when she had a reason to give a gift, a meal, or support them in any other way possible.
Carol was an exceptional cook, using her skills to bring her family together. She provided weekly Sunday meals to her children and grandchildren. She would prepare an elaborate meal days ahead during holidays, and for many years, hosted a New Year's Eve celebration with a large spread of food for the extended family.
When Carol wasn’t cooking you could find her tending to her garden. Carol loved spending her free time in the garden, she took a blank canvas and created a masterpiece with a variety of colourful flowers and shrubs.
Carol enjoyed the company of many four-legged companions. She couldn’t say no to an abandoned cat when her children were not yet in school. There was another cat to follow (Mittens), a Pomeranian dog (Brandy), a German Shepherd mix (King), and the beloved Golden Retriever (Jenna).
Carol was meticulous about keeping a clean, tidy and organized home. She held high standards when it came to keeping the home clean. She used these skills and her enjoyment to earn a wage. After spending many years at home raising her children, she worked for a cleaning company. Here she met a client who hired her privately because she was so impressed by her work. She became close friends with the homeowner. Carol then moved on from the cleaning company to work for a dental clinic, where she also gained new and lasting friendships. She stayed working until she retired when her first grandchild was born.
Carol had a friendly personality and made lasting friends, many of whom she met in the neighbourhood where she lived most of her life.
Carol is going to be dearly missed by her immediate family. It will not be the same without her presence. She will also be missed by her sisters, Sharon (Dann), Lucy (Adams), Donna (Pothie), and Janice (Little); and brothers, Lanny and Lonny. She also had a special bond with several of her nephews and nieces and treated them like one of her own. Carol was predeceased by her half-sister, Margaret Fleet; brother-in- law, Charles Pothie; brothers, David, Carl, Michael, Fred, John, Jan and Phillip. Carol will be missed by all her family and friends.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to everyone involved in her medical care over the years, especially the staff at The QEII #3 IMCU in the last few weeks.
In keeping with Carol's wishes, cremation has taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, Halifax. A Celebration of life will be held at a later date at her home in Spryfield.
