Obituary of Wayne Gilbert Nickerson
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Gilbert Nickerson ‘Nick” on June 29, 2026, at the age of 90. Nick passed away peacefully at the VG Hospital with his wife of 68 years, Mona, by his side.
Nick was a long-time resident of both East Pennant and Halifax. He is survived and dearly missed by his loving wife, Mona; brother, Larry (Shirley); nieces and nephews; and family in Ontario and New York. Nick was predeceased by his parents, William and Nima; brother, Jerry (Pearl); sister, Jeanne (Herbert); and nieces Judy and Carol.
Nick attended Gorsebrook, Tower Road, and QEH public schools as well as Dalhousie University. He was an avid fan of both basketball and football, playing basketball for Dalhousie and the Clod Hoppers as well as football for the Buccaneers. Nick had a lifelong career in accounting. After working for several prominent companies in the Halifax area, he eventually opened his own accounting business.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing at his camp in Oben, Cape Breton, and always looked forward to the many fishing tournaments held each summer back at Ragged Lake with friends and family. Nick and Mona made many trips across both Canada and the US in various motorhomes throughout the years. Most of their winters were spent golfing, dancing at the Legion, and having fun times with all the new friends they made while living in Florida.
Funeral arrangements and cremation have been entrusted to J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, Halifax. A Celebration of Life will be held at the St. James United Church Hall in Sambro on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. To send words of comfort, click on “Tribute Wall”.
