Obituary of Alpheaus "Alf" Hardiman

The family of Alpheaus Hardiman, 83, of Garnish, Fortune Bay, Newfoundland, announces his passing on Monday, July 8, 2013, in the QEII, Halifax, surrounded by the love of his family.  Born in Garnish, NL, he was the son of the late George Hardiman and the late Mary Hannah (Baker).  Alf loved spending time with his children and especially enjoyed his 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  Alf was known affectionately by the great-grandchildren and their friends as the "Candy Man" as he always had candy in his pocket or under his pillow when he was bed-ridden.  Alf’s life was guided by his calling to the Salvation Army and he was a member of the Armdale Corps for over 30 years and the Garnish Corps for another 20 years.  Alf is survived by his daughters, Sadie (Tom), Sheila, sons, Rendell, Joey, Jerry and daughter-in law, Patricia, all of Halifax-Dartmouth, son, Wayne of Ottawa, his siblings John (Jess), Meta Grandy, Elizabeth Scott, Georgie Fizzard and Shirley Green (Wilfred) and his many nieces and nephews.  Alf was predeceased by his wife, Olive, and his sister, Annie Marshall.  A special thanks to Dr. Christy Bussey and the staff of 8-4 QEII.  God Bless You All for the care you provided to our loved one.  Arrangements are under the direction of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. There will be a celebration of Alf’s life at the Salvation Army Church, Herring Cove Road, Spryfield, on Thursday, July 11th, at 7:00 p.m. followed by visitation with the family from 7:30 to 9:00 pm.  Alf will then journey to Garnish, Newfoundland, for interment with Olive in the Garnish Cemetery.
