Obituary of George Albert Maynard

Age 81, Halifax, passed away peacefully at home on September 6, 2013. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Mary Theresa Maynard. George was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the P.P.C.L.I and Black Watch. He worked until retirement as a boilermaker with Local 73. George enjoyed carpentry and was an avid outdoorsman with interests in hunting and fishing. He is survived by sons, David (Joanne), Spry Bay; Robert (Maddie), Herring Cove; Pat (Krista), Spryfield; Mike (Colette), Dover Center, Ont.; daughter, Terry-Ann Escobar (Victor), Calgary, Alta.; grandchildren, Colleen, Caitlin, Jenna, Carley, Ashley and Bryce. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley (Kenney) Maynard. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. (477-5601). In keeping with George’s wishes, there will be no formal visitation or service. Interment to be in Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville, on Wednesday September 11th, a gathering for family and friends will be held at the family home on McIntosh St. from 5-7 p.m., following the interment. Donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Canadian Diabetes Association.
