Obituary of Bettey I. Wignell

89, 1924-2013, was received into God's Loving embrace Somewhere over the rainbow on Nov 22nd in the presence of her family. Bettey was Mother of her only child, Anne (Hilton) Miller and Beloved Gommy of Amber (Allan) Collins-Grimmer, treasured Great-Gommy of Lorelei, Bradley & Natalie Grimmer; Sister of Evelyn Young and Tom Collins, Aunt of several nieces and nephews in Nova Scotia as well as in her native England.  Daughter of the late Percival Frederick & Maude Francis (Basett) Collins; stepdaughter of Mabel Collins.Bettey was predeceased by her loving husband George Alfred Wignell in December of 1974. Bettey & George operated Goodwood Grocery with its attached hall where they hosted dances, wedding receptions and bingo games. Bettey was an active member of UCW for years while enjoying her fellowship and community life at St. James United Church in Goodwood. Bettey was proud of her British roots and was decorated for her service as Sergeant (Ret.) with the Royal Air Force (RAF). She was a 22 year breast cancer survivor.  Gardening, sewing, reading, knitting, bingo and Coronation Street brought much joy to Bettey’s soul. The gratitude of her spirit rests with her dedicated care-givers at Northwood Manor.  Arrangements are under the care of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield, where visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 26 from 2-4p.m. and 7-9p.m.  Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 27th at 2PM from the funeral home chapel with Rev Elaine Walcott officiating, with a reception to follow. Interment will take place in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada and the Last Post Fund.
