Obituary of Jean Gloria Nauss (Barry)

Herring Cove, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on September 4, 2014, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Maitland, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late Winfred and Stella (Oickle) Barry. Jean was a long-time parishioner of Emmanuel Anglican Church, Spryfield as a member of the ACW, ELF Group, Sanctuary Guild, helping with many fund raising projects as well as an active member of the Topaz Rebekah Lodge No. 125 I.O.O.F of Spryfield. Jean was well known in her neighbourhood as the "Avon" lady for many years and then decided to return to full time employment for Sears Canada as the supervisor of Customer Service, a position she held until her retirement. She will be missed by her daughter, Carol "Ann" MacDonnell (Gary "Mac"), Herring Cove; son, Barry (Karole), Langley, B.C.; brother, Donald Barry, Chester; grandchildren Greg, Jennifer, Barrie and Ananda and great granddaughters Lucie and Ryann. Jean was predeceased by her husband Douglas; brothers, Ivan, Ray, Johnny and George; sisters, Phyllis Meisner, Pearl Joudrey and Shirley Crossland. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. (477-5601), 149 Herring Cove Rd. where visitation will be held Tuesday September 9 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. A celebration of Jean’s life will be held at Emmanuel Anglican Church 322 Herring Cove Rd. on Wednesday September 10 at 1:30p.m., Rev. Canon James Purchase officiating. Reception to follow in church hall. Interment to take place at a later date in Mahone Bay. Family flowers only, donations in Jean’s memory may be made to the Emmanuel Players (Dinner Theatre). A special thank you to Dr. Mac Swain for her compassionate care and support.
