Obituary of Barry Thomas Mitchell

MITCHELL, Barry Thomas - Age 65, of Margaretsville, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the QEII Victoria General Hospital in Halifax on February 11, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer.  Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Marion (Dwyer) and Harry Mitchell.

Barry was a retiree from Bell Aliant formerly known as MTT.  Barry loved his wife and family more than anything in the world. He was always the life of the party, could light up a room with his smile and always saw the good in everyone. He enjoyed playing horseshoes and cards. He loved going ATVing with his wife and friends who he loved like they were family. He loved playing hockey and was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan even though they always blew it in the playoffs.  He loved traveling around the world, camping and going to Cape Breton with his family and friends. Barry has left a lasting memory of happiness in every person in his life. He will be sadly missed and has left an unfillable void in all the people who loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Donna (McInnis); daughter, Natasha (Joel); son, Barry (Kirsten); brothers, Jack, Donald (Vera), Robert (Doreen), Stanley (Linda) and Robert Casey (Christina); sisters, Shirley Sampson (Tony), Gloria Mahar, and Elaine Blackburn; mother-in-law, Marie McInnis (Bob); sisters-in-law, Patricia McInnis (Steven), Marie; brothers-in-law, Dean Brewer, and Jody McInnis (Alicia); many beloved nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brothers, Allan, Keith and Ronald; sisters, Beatrice, Dolly and Joanne; sister-in-law, Sylvia; brothers-in-law, Manny Slaunwhite, Mise Blackburn, Edward Mahar, Donald Blackburn and Wendell Publicover; many nieces and nephews

Arrangements and cremation have been entrusted to J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road.  In keeping with Barry’s wishes there will be no visitation.
