Obituary of Pearl LeFrense

LEFRENSE, Pearl- Age 95, Halifax, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023, at the QEII Halifax Infirmary Site.  Born in Point Rosie, Newfoundland, Pearl was the daughter of the late John Samuel and Sarah Jane (Hardiman) May.  

 

For many years, Pearl had worked for the Lord Nelson Hotel as a waitress, from where she retired.  In her younger years, Pearl enjoyed knitting and gardening.  She always enjoyed entertaining and socializing, as well as her biannual trips home to Newfoundland to visit with family and friends.  The family was most important to Pearl; she loved her family dearly.  On May 19th of this year, she was surrounded by the love of her family as she celebrated her 95th birthday, enjoying lobster, and in her own home, where she lived right up until her passing.  Pearl was a long-time member of Emmanuel Anglican Church, where she devoted herself to her faith.  

 

She is survived by her children, Linda (Eric), Keith (Debbie), and Roger (Shirley). Affectionately known as “Nanny”, she will be missed by her grandchildren, Adrian, Meredith, Jennifer, Jamieson (Theresa), Megan (Ashton), Jill (Ben), and Luke, as well as her great-grandchildren, Brent, Evan, Gil, Colton, and Aine.  She is also survived by sisters, Melita (Matthew) and Edith, brother, Frank.  Pearl was predeceased by her husband William, and brothers, Freeman, Jim, and Chas.  

 

The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to Dorothy (Dot), a lifelong friend of 60 years for making a special trip from Quebec to be with her in her final moment.  Along with her wonderful caregivers and neighbors, who enabled her to stay in her own home until the end, Brenda (Patrick) and Faye.

 

Arrangements have been entrusted to J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax.  In keeping with Pearl's wishes, visitation will be held on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at J. Albert Walker Funeral Home.  A Funeral Service in memory of Pearl will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 1 p.m. from Emmanuel Anglican Church, followed by a reception in the church hall.  Interment will take place at Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville, NS on Monday, August 28, 2023, at 10: 30 a.m.   In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Emmanuel Anglican Church or a charity of your choice.  To place online condolences, please visit www.walkerfh.com
