William Briand

Obituary of William Patrick Briand

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William (Billy) Patrick Briand on Friday, February 2, 2024 at the Q.E.II Infirmary. He was  born to Carole Geraldine Briand (Boyle) and William Keith Briand and stepson to Douglas Gerald Munroe.

Billy, known to many as a wild and vibrant character, possessed a unique ability to bring laughter to any room. His infectious spirit, always eager to make people smile, created a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him. In this difficult moment, his family reflects on the importance of mending relationships and cherishing the presence of our loved ones; a sentiment Billy himself would undoubtedly endorse.

One of the most beautiful chapters of Billy’s life unfolded in the Summer of '79 when he met Annetta at Studio 16. Both just 15 years old at the time, their love story blossomed and by the age of 17 they welcomed their first child, Shawn, in 1981. The Briand family continued to grow, welcoming Chris (Lyndsay), Jeff (Meagan), and Jacquelyn (Michael) every five years. Billy was also survived by children, Alicia Smith and Camden Smith (Tracey Smith), Jason Walsh, Kyle Boudreau, siblings Phillip, Troy, Trina, Denise, and Jamie who he loved unconditionally. In recent years he found a lot of love, comfort, and support and shared a special bond with Gia (Doreen) Amara. Billy also was a proud grandfather to Benjamin, Maddox, Nathan, Rhodes, Malaki, Theodore-Elliott, Aydon, Jaelynn, and another grandson who will arrive in a few months. Billy also leaves behind numerous neices, nephews, and cousins who he loved dearly.

Throughout his life, Billy was a dedicated provider for his family, always ready to give and support his loved ones in any way possible. Billy’s first work began at Joe’s store and then he showcased his culinary talents as the head cook at Nemos Restaurant on Hollis Street in the early '90s. His professional path led him to forge strong bonds while working with Glynn and the boys at Halifax Nissan, an experience he cherished.

While the inevitable arrival of this day weighed heavily on the minds of those who loved him, Billy’s departure serves as a poignant reminder of the preciousness of time. As his family grapples with the pain of his loss, they implore others to take care of themselves and their loved ones. Reach out, mend fences, and embrace the moments with those who mean the most. In honoring Billy’s memory, let us pledge to extend help when needed, seek assistance when required and, above all, to love one another unconditionally. May his spirit live on in the laughter, love, and shared moments that will forever be a part of those who were fortunate enough to have him in their lives.  Billy was always proud to give and share with others, and on his final day he was able to save the lives of others by donating his organs.

Now, as we remember Billy, a beloved father, cherished family member, and friend, let us reflect on the precious moments, laughter, love, and craziness that defined his life.

Rest in Peace Billy B.
