Obituary of Laurel Margaret Ouellette
Halifax, 1970-2019 passed away peacefully October 8, 2019 with her mother and Aunt Shirley-Anne by her side.
Laurel was a kind-hearted, gentle soul who loved to laugh, watch movies, spend time with friends and family and her fuzzy buddy Zues (who she missed dearly). Although Laurel faced many medical challenges since birth it never stopped her from living her life to the fullest. Weighing only 2 lb, 11 oz at birth and having fought many heath battles throughout her life she always found the inner fortitude to rise above her fears with Gods help to reinvent herself and move on. She was diagnosed with mesothelioma, stage 4 in 2018 and she walked through her journey with grace. Laurel was a registered nurse and graduated from St.Martha's School for Nursing in 1991. She worked in several hospitals throughout the United States and Nova Scotia before residing at the Dartmouth General Hospital in the ICU department where she was still employed at her death. Laurel had a strong personality and was strong in her faith.
She is survived by her loving mother and friend, Orlean Piedrahita who was with her throughout this battle, stepbrother Ignacio Piedrahita; Aunts, Heather Sperlins and Shirley-Anne Williams; Godparents, George Gray and Beverly Gray; many cousins and close friends who loved her unconditionally. Laurel was predeceased by her stepfather, Ruben Piedrahita; grandparents, William (Bill) and Ruth Williams.
