Obituary of Edith Lorraine Flemming

Herring Cove (formally Ketch Harbour) died peacefully on Saturday, February 29, 2020at Arborstone Enhanced Care Nursing Home.  Mom was the last surviving member of her family. Born in Halifax, June 7, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Kathleen (Redden) Gray from West Pennant. At the age of 16, Mom left West Pennant and went to work for Bremner’s Grocery on Chebucto Road in Halifax.  In 1957, Mom landed a job at the Red Cross Society as a Stenographer.  She became our fulltime caregiver from 1960 onward. In later years, Mom looked after the office of Dad’s business, Ken’s Plumbing & Heating until his retirement.

Mom lived her married life in Ketch Harbour and was a great church worker for St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church.  In Mom’s younger years, she loved to square dance, bowl, knit and have coffee around the community with friends and spend time at the cottage.  For the last twenty years, Mom lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Herring Cove.  Mom leaves behind her sons Darrell (Nancy), Portuguese Cove, Bruce (Anna), Timberlea and daughter Carla (Kevin) Cormier, Herring Cove.
