Obituary of Albert McNaught Webster
Age 91 of Halifax, passed away at his home in Spryfield on Wednesday, December 4, 2019. It is with broken hearts that we say goodbye to our precious father. He has been the foundation of our family throughout his life, and we will suffer his loss for the remainder of ours.
Bert was born in Halifax to the late Albert and Clara Webster, on February 29, 1928, making him a leap year baby. Having only 22 actual birthdays gave him one more excuse to remain young at heart. He was always a go-getter and never slowed down. We were proud to say that our father was a firefighter. He worked for DND at Halifax Dockyard until he retired to the Pin-Hi Golf Course where he spent some of his favorite hours. Dad put his heart and soul into maintaining our MacQuilkin homestead in Chimney Corner, Cape Breton, a true legacy to his children and an expression of his love for his wife, Jean, who cherished her Scottish heritage. It became a place for the two of them to enjoy their summers, until her death in 2007.
He has left behind generations of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who have all been touched by his loving and generous heart. He was a role model for each and every one of us. Bert was a brother to Frances MacDonald, Wendall, Mary and Laurie, all deceased. He married Jean (MacQuilkin) in 1952, and they raised eight children in their home that they built in 1956: Adele, Robert (Susan), Janine Seymour, David (Jean), Tom, Joanne Laird, deceased, Tim (Darlene), and Howard, deceased. He welcomed 14 grandchildren and was delighted as he met each of his 17 great grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. 149 Herring Cove Rd. where visitation will be Sunday, December 8 from 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, December 9th at 11 am from St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church Spryfield, reception to follow. Interment to be in Gate Of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
