Obituary of Janice M. Dempsey

DEMPSEY, Janice Maria … 46, Halifax, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, October 12, 2010, with her loving daughters by her side. Born in Halifax on October 29, 1963, she was a daughter of Edward V. and Laura R. (Fraser) Dempsey of Herring Cove. Janice was a very caring, sensitive and passionate person. She loved music and will be remembered for her beautiful singing voice and her sense of humor. She was a loving and devoted mother, and cared deeply about her entire family and many friends. To know her, was to love her. She will lovingly be remembered and never forgotten by her daughters, Elaine (Scott Baker), Haley (Marshall Gray); son, Dylan (Emily O’Connor); grandson, Makal and granddaughter, Rachael, all of Halifax. She is also survived by her siblings, Anne Warren (Peter), Lois West (Mike), Edward (Lana), all of Portuguese Cove; Marian Dempsey, Duncan’s Cove, Matthew Dempsey and Ellen Dempsey, Herring Cove, Catherine Brown and Fraser Dempsey (Laurel Cooper) both of Halifax; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by son in-law, Corey Murphy; sister in-law, Elizabeth Moar; brother in-law Garry MacDonald. The family would like to extend special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the VG 7A Palliative Care, for their care and kindness shown during Janice’s illness and hospitalization. Arrangements are under the care of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield (477-5601), where visitation will be held today, Thursday, October 14 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Friday, October 15 in St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Herring Cove, Fr. Zak Romanowsky as celebrant; interment to follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Herring Cove. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Family flowers only, donations can be made to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of Canada.
