Obituary of Gordon J. A. Mack
MACK, Gordon John Allon – Armdale. February 18, 1928 - November 4, 2010, after a long battle with cancer, passed away in his own home.
Gordon was born in Swift Current Saskatchewan and moved to Nova Scotia in 1936. He was head of the Science department at Queen Elizabeth High School and after retiring from teaching in 1985, he and his wife took the job of managers at Malagash Bible Camp. Gordon served faithfully in the position of deacon and treasurer at Grace Chapel for most of his life. He loved woodworking, gardening, playing the piano, canoeing, and camping.
He will be greatly missed by his five children, Martin (Anne), Heather (David), Stephen (Anne), Philip (Robin) and Kathryn (Brian); his eighteen grandchildren, Andrew, Rebekah, Simon, Matthew, Rachel, Emily, Ellen, Nathanael, Thomas, Laurel, Daniel, Jonathan, Jocelyn, Ashley, Joshua, Sarah, Grace , and David; his siblings, Allon (Helene) and Rhoda (Donald). Gordon was predeceased by his parents, Zaner and Margery; his beloved wife, Mary (Frail); his brothers, Stanley (Betty) and Robert.
Gordon touched the lives of many people with his quiet devotion to his Christian faith as he constantly reached out to the people around him. The family wish to thank VON and Halifax Palliative Care team who gave amazing care this past year. Special thanks to Alana Campbell, Heather Muncey, and Dr. John McNab.
Arrangements are under the direction of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Monday, November 8 from 6:30-9:30 PM. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 9 at 2PM in Grace Chapel, 255 Ross Street, Halifax. Donations in Gordon’s memory may be made to Malagash Christian Fellowship.
