Obituary of Peter Popescul
POPESCUL, Peter … 81, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2010 at Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, after a brief illness. Born March 5, 1929 in Kayville, Saskatchewan, Peter was the beloved son of Dan and Rosie (Krasiun) Popescul.
Peter was a black hat master chef who worked for hotels and oil companies worldwide, including the Maidstone Club (East Hampton, New York), the Royal York Hotel (Toronto); Houston Oil & Drilling in offshore Venezuela, Scotland and the South China Sea, as well as Dome Petroleum (Calgary) in the Beaufort Sea.
Surviving are his wife, Jean Wright-Popescul, Halifax; brother, Sam, St. Catherines, Ontario; daughter, Connie Muller, Edmonton; two sons in Europe; father-in-law, Franklin Wright (Port Hawkesbury); brothers-in-law, Sandy Wright (Viviane), Dundee; Edwin Wright (Halifax); sisters-in-law, Mary Ahern (Garry), Fort McMurray, Alberta; Vera Popescul, Winnipeg.
He was predeceased by his son Juan, brothers Coston, Dan, and George.
Visitation will be held at J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (902.477.5601) on Wednesday from 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 19, 2010 at 2 PM from St. Columba Catholic Church, Iona, Cape Breton, with Fr. Paul Abbass as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery.
Peter was a loving, caring, generous man. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched and in the smiles he left everywhere he went.
