Obituary of Orlando "Olie" Banfield
Banfield, Orlando J.R. “Olie”: 83, Halifax, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at Abby Lane, Camphill Hospital, Halifax, NS. Born in Bay L’Argent, Newfoundland, he was the son of the late Harvey and Martha Jane (Melloy) Banfield. For over 30 years, Olie had been employed with Canada Post, from where he retired in 1990 as a supervisor. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Olie loved the outdoors and was a sun worshiper, but his greatest passion in life was his grandchildren, Scott, Janet, Morgan, and Paige. He is survived by his sons, Calvin (Faye), and Harvey, his daughter, Cathy (Mike) Holmes, four grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Christine (MacDougall) Banfield in 2005, and was also predeceased by a sister, Joyce, and an infant sister, Muriel. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Amy Gillis and all the nursing staff of 9 Lane, Abby Lane, for all of the care and compassion shown to Olie while under their care.
Resting at JA Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS (477.5601), where visitation will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2010 from 10 AM to 1 PM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 1 PM from the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Dianna Brett-Frye as officiating clergy. Interment will take place at Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville, NS.
