Obituary of Albert R. "Russ" Hamm

HAMM, Albert Russell “Russ” … 93, Halifax, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sambro, he was a son of the late George and Olive (Hart) Hamm. Russ was a hardworking man. He was in the Navy from 1941 to 1946, after this he worked at the Halifax Dockyard. Later he took some auto mechanic courses and subsequently built and operated the Texaco Service Station in Spryfield. After selling the business to Texaco, he remained with them and started a fuel delivery business, from which he retired from, but still remained active in furnace service and repair. He will lovingly be remembered and never forgotten by his daughters, Velda Roome, Halifax; Glenda (Don) Finkel, Florida; grandchildren, Baden Roome, Richard and Steven Finkel; sisters, Josie Green, Ontario; Jessie Miller and Irene (Royce) Schnare, both of Sambro; Edith Brunt, Halifax; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mamie; son, David; brothers, Lionel and Dermith “Derm”; sisters, Clyda and Isobel. Arrangements are under the direction of J.A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 28 from 3…6PM. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 29 at 11AM from Emmanuel Anglican Church, with Rev. Dianna Frye as officiating clergy. Interment will take place in Emmanuel Anglican Cemetery. Donations in Russ’ memory may be made to Emmanuel Anglican Church or to a charity of ones choice.
