Obituary of Edna Verna Kelly

83, Spryfield, passed away December 31, 2010 in the Northwood Manor. She was a daughter of the late Theodore and Edith (Locke) Bullen. Edna was originally from Harbour Breton, NF and came to Nova Scotia in 1943. She married Joe in 1944 and for years they operated Joe’s Fish and Chips, Spryfield. She worked in the hospitality industry as a waitress at the Brass Rail Restaurant and the Ardmore Tea Room. She then went to work at the Chronicle Herald where she retired from. In her later years Edna became actively involved in the seniors community of Spryfield and was a founding member of the Golden Age Social Club in Spryfield. She loved to play cards, darts, dance and just be with people, even after her stroke seven years ago, Edna became actively involved at Northwood where she went to live. Everyone knew and loved her. She had an ironwill and was a very strong woman which was evident in her battle with COPD. She fought til the end. Edna is survived by son; Joseph, Dartmouth, three daughters; Barbara Rogerson, Tammy Kelly, both of Halifax, Deborah, Kanata, Ont., brothers; George (Irene) , Bedford, Ted (Violet), Corner Brook, NF, Merrill (Lila), Harbour Breton, NF, Hubert, Petit deGras, Sydney, Saint John, NB; sisters Eileen Honeycutt, Newfoundland, Jane Windsor, Edmonton, AB; grandchildren; Benjamin, Cindy, Colleen, Christine, Matthew, James, great grandchildren Aaron, Patrick, Piper, Nehiley, Sefa and David. She will also be missed by her best friend in Northwood, Charlie Hurshman. She was predeceased by husband Joe, daughter Jocelyn, brother John, and grandsons Glenn, David. Arrangements are under the care of J.A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. (477-5601). No visitation by request. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday January 5, 2011 at 10 a.m. from St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Spryfield, Fr. Frank Pellerin as celebrant. Reception to follow. Interment to take place in St. John Anglican Cemetery Halifax. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Foundation. Special thanks to the staff of 10 Manor, who took such good care of Mom , especially in her final days. Their kindness will not be forgotten.
