Obituary of Thomas J. Grandy
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thom after a brief and sudden illness. Thom was born in Halifax in 1951 and was the youngest son of the late William and Lucy (Rose) Grandy.
He is survived by his loving wife Dianne (Hubley), sons, Nicholas, Jesse and Evan; sisters, Francis Smithson (Dave), Vancouver; Marg Hibbert, Ontario; brother, Bill, Dartmouth; mother in-law, Mary “Nanny” Hubley and all of the family; several nieces and nephews.
Fate brought Thom and Dianne together 41 years ago and their destiny was to be together. He loved his family and he especially enjoyed spending time with his three sons of whom he was so proud. He also loved his “babies”, Scooter, Sophie, Rascal and Spooky. Early in Thom’s life he owned/operated several Barber shops both here in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. He graduated from St. Mary’s in 1988 and eventually found his true calling as a counselor in the Mental Health field. He was employed for many years with Metro Community Housing and he loved and was loved by his many clients and colleagues. Thom loved music and he loved to dance. He was a kind and gentle soul who had many friends and he will be greatly missed. For Thom’s wife, children and family, he will never leave our hearts and our lives will never be the same. We will live forever with the loss for one who was loved so much.
Many thanks to the Palliative Care Team at the VG Hospital who made this very difficult journey somewhat less difficult.
