Obituary of Raymond "Ray" Hartlin
Hartlin, Raymond V. “Ray”: Williamswood, NS. It is with great sadness that we have to announce the sudden passing of Raymond Vincent Hartlin, 67, of Williamswood on Monday, February 21st at the QEII, Halifax. Born on July 15th, 1943, he was a son of the late Earl and Ellen Hartlin of Jollimore. He was predeceased by his older brother, Robert Earl Hartlin. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years and best friend, Judith Anne, his two sons Mark Raymond (Roseann) and Brad Earl (Angela Bryden), his daughter, Christie Hogan (Jeff Knight), his four grandchildren, Summer Rose, Jacob, Carly and Aidan, his brothers Carl (Moncton) and Bernard (Ottawa), as well as his many cousins, nieces and nephews. Ray spent his younger years sailing in Armdale with so many friends, who will affectionately remember him as “Horsey”, and on the ice where he was a great hockey player. He settled in Williamswood with wife Judy in 1973, and built his home over looking beautiful Moody Lake, where he had so many memorable moments on his favorite pontoon boat while sailing with the "Captain". Over his lifetime, Ray maintained a strong relationship in the community through his close ties with local hockey, and charity and business organizations. He took over his most successful business, "Ray Hartlin Painting and Decorating", over 40 years ago from his father, Earl, and he now leaves it in the well guided and trusted hands of his son, Mark. Ray also owned and operated "Hartlin Hardware" on the Herring Cove Road, later moving the business to the Bayer's Road Shopping Centre. After 20 years he decided to move on from the retail business and focus all his efforts on the painting company. In the last few years he ventured into the Restaurant/ Hospitality Industry with his son, Brad, by creating "Bubba Ray's Sports Bar", which proudly bares his name and has become a Halifax Landmark. He enjoyed life to the fullest and was proud of everyone that came into it. He will be sadly missed by all co-workers, customers, family and friends.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 24th, 2011 at 3 PM from St. Andrews United Church, 6036 Coburg Road (corner of Robie Street and Coburg Road), Halifax, NS, with Rev. Russell Daye as officiant. A reception will follow the service in the church hall.
