Obituary of C. Edwin Zwicker
C. Edwin Zwicker, 88 years of Halifax, passed away February 25, 2011 at Camp Hill Veterans’ Memorial Building, 5 East.Edwin served with the Canadian Army during World War II, in England, France, Belgium and Holland.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Betty (Emery), war bride from Essex, England, and their daughters, Sheila Quackenbush of Halifax, Valerie of Vancouver and Diane (Hubert Maier) of Halifax.
He was the beloved Grandad of Michael (Elyisha Hanniman) and Katherine Quackenbush (Mike Morrow), Belinda and Thomas Maier, all of Halifax, Lauriel and Madeleine LeBlanc of Vancouver. The arrival of great grandson, Nathan Quackenbush, brought him much joy in his last year of life.Surviving also are sisters and brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews in many parts of the world including two first cousins Ruth Kennedy and Muriel Druhan of Mount Uniacke.
Born in Yarmouth, he was the son of the late Hiram and Violet (Joudrey) Zwicker, was predeceased by his sister, Ruby Rodney and brother Harold and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was also predeceased by his son-in-law Douglas Quackenbush.
During his working life as an accountant, Ed was well known for his honesty and integrity. He was a loving husband, loyal friend and a great Dad and Grandad who was so proud and supportive of his family.
Ed’s health had declined in recent years but he still enjoyed reading, a competitive game of cribbage and his daily cryptoquotes and puzzles.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of 5 East, Veterans’ Memorial for their compassionate and professional care and many kindnesses to Edwin and Betty over the past fifteen months.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at St. Matthias Anglican Church (corner of Windsor St. and Chebucto Rd.) on Saturday, March 5 at 2 pm with a reception to follow in the church hall.
