Obituary of J. Bruce Scott

Scott, Joseph “Bruce”: McGrath’s Cove, NS, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2011 surrounded by his loving family at the QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born in McGrath’s Cove on August 7, 1921, he was the youngest son of Charles and Anastasia (Gray) Scott. Bruce enlisted in the army in 1943, he was stationed in Kingston, ON, where he met and married his wife of 43 years, Millie. They left the service and moved home to Nova Scotia in 1945. Bruce worked at various jobs until he was employed at H.M.C.S Dockyard, where he retired after 27 years. Bruce loved the sea and operated a charter fishing business in his spare time and so enjoyed taking people out on his boat, “The Four Lads”. Dad loved music and all who knew him will remember him playing the mouth organ while Millie accompanied him on the piano. Bruce was a founding and lifelong member of White’s Lake Legion, Branch 153 RCL. Surviving are his children, son, Bryan and his wife Deborah, daughter, Judy and her children Roy, Krista, and Adam, son, Doug and his wife, JoAnn and their daughters, Laura and Darlene, son, Mike and his wife Marilyn and their children, Gregory, Jason, and Rebecca, daughter, Marlaine Lewis (Roddie Stubbert) and her sons, Charles and Eric, son, Charlie and his wife, Liz, and their children, Jennie and Andy, and daughter, Bernadette and her husband, John Forbes, and their son, Willie. Bruce will be lovingly remembered by his long time companion, Edna Flinn and her family, as well as ten great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and special godchildren, Lucie, Maureen and Kevin. Besides his parents, Bruce was predeceased by his wife, Mildred “Millie” (McLaren), brothers, Grover and Cliff, sister, Rita Kiley, and grandsons, Joey Scott and Patrick Graves. Arrangements are under the care of JA Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS (477.5601), where visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 10 AM from St. Thomas Catholic Church, East Dover, with Fr. Duncan McMaster as celebrant. Burial will take place in St. Thomas Cemetery. A reception will follow at East Dover Community Hall. Family flowers only by request. The family would appreciate donations in memory of Bruce be made to St. Thomas Cemetery, 299 Whistlers Cove Road, East Dover, NS B3Z 3W5.
