Obituary of Herbert Bernard Painting
68, Halifax, passed away after a hard fought battle with cancer on Thursday, December 1, 2011, in the VG Site, QEII, with his family by his side. Born in Halifax, he was a son of Mary Painting Howard (Green) and the late Herbert Edward Painting. Dad loved kids, having had seven of his own, and getting to spend as much time as possible with his grandchildren prior to his passing meant a lot to him. His grandchildren really stepped up, preparing him meals and visiting often, made his final days as pleasant as they could be. So from all of them, âRest in Peace, Granka.â Dad also shared a special bond with his brother in-law/best friend, George Dunford, even though he was known to steal booze and women away from dad, after both their wives had passed away, of course. Thanks for being there Uncle George. Herbert will lovingly be remembered and never forgotten by his seven children, Brad (Dr. Michael Duffey), Tantallon; Marilyn (Darren Lane), Tatamagouche; Mary Goodall, Dartmouth; John, Harrietsfield; Tabatha (Joey MacDonald), Williamswood; Mark (Lisa Cox), Eastern Passage and Adam (Elizabeth Cox), Spryfield; grandchildren, Christopher and Stephen, Chrystal and Justine, Ashley and Steven, Laura and Jorja, Tyler, Kyle and Brady, Breanna, Cameron, Dylan and Brayden; great-grandchildren, Jayden, McKenna, Taylor, Bryce, Landon,Carter, Paris and Leighton; brothers, Alex (Marilyn), William (Barb), James (Carol); sisters, Carol Feener (Dave) and Marie Jollimore (Vincent); half siblings, Tim, Tina and Terrie. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 38 years, Thelma (Jollimore); step father, James Howard; brothers, Reginald Howard and John Painting in infancy; sister, Brenda (Filis). Special thanks to the nurses and doctors who cared for dad during this battle, especially the Palliative care givers of VG 7A. A special heartfelt thank you goes out to our youngest brother, Adam and his wife Liz âdadâs BFFâ and their four children for taking dad into their home. Arrangements are under the direction of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd, Halifax, (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Saturday, December 3 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 5 at 11 AM from the funeral home chapel. Interment to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of oneâs choice.
