Obituary of Maxine Alice Smith
69, Halifax, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Saturday, November 19, 2011, in the QEII Health Sciences Center. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Julia (LeRue) Ballard. Maxine was a long standing member of St. Michaelâs Roman Catholic Church. She was a treasured mother, grandmother and friend. She will lovingly be remembered and never forgotten by her children, George and Andrea (Dion Harnish); grandchildren, who were her pride and joy, Katelyn and Nicholas Harnish, all of Halifax; brother, Charles (Tamara) Ballard; nephews, James Ballard (Tammy Mosher), Robert McGee and William Ballard; nieces, Heather Ballard ( Lance Bonang), Marilyn McGee and Jorginea Bonang; aunts, Irene and Geraldine; cousins, Debbie, Brenda and Donna; life-long friends, Marilyn Howard and Irene Hire. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert âSmittyâ; nephew, Josh Ballard; uncle, Earl; special family friend, William (Maureen) Crawford. Arrangements are under the direction of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 23 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday, November 24 from St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church, Fr. Frank Pellerin as celebrant. Interment will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Heartfelt thanks are extended to the Red Cross, NS Heart Function Clinic and QEII 6.2 for their wonderful care and support.
