Obituary of Donald Wagner Atkinson

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Donald Wagner Atkinson, 91 years, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 27, 2011, in Queens Manor, Liverpool. Born in Port Mouton on March 29, 1920, he was the son of the late Stanley and Vera (Wagner) Atkinson. Donald served in the Second World War, during such time he met the love of his life, the late Jean (Clark) in Greennock, Scotland. Donald and Jean returned to Port Mouton where he worked as a diesel mechanic at Bowater Mersey in Liverpool for many years. He was a skilled boat builder and enjoyed lobster fishing during his leisure time. He was the founder of Don Atkinson Trucking, crafting the first trailer for a cape island-style boat. Donald will be lovingly remembered by son, Donald (Mary) of Liverpool; daughter Jane of Dartmouth; and granddaughter, Tiffany of Dartmouth. He will be missed by many family and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Leon. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
